I developed the practice of not exposing Frame #36 when using roll negative film because most protective negative files will only hold 7 strips of 5 frames for a total of 35 exposures. Therefore, I designated the last remaining frame, Frame #36, to be extraneous as it presented storage and printing difficulties. Better to not expose the frame and instead load a new roll.
When shooting slides, especially when I worked in commercial labs in NYC, the format of the slide holder made moot the previous issues with the Frame #36. Consequently, there were always a few frames at the end of the roll to be used up or remain blank. So, I would turn the camera on myself for a “selfie” vis à vis early 1990’s.
"Frame #36" are unrelated photographs I took of myself as I used up the last few frames of a roll of slide film. In 2025, I chose to assemble some of them and create a 2:10 second reel.
