"Frames of Reference" - Walking the streets of NYC means maneuvering through masses of people, and in doing so one can easily become anesthetized to the faces and actions of others. I find this regrettable, and I often make a point to establish eye contact with people as they walk by.  This photographic project, "Frames of Reference," speaks to urban street politics and the chance encounter with the camera.  By using a simple framing device, I have created an artificial means of selecting individuals from the sidewalk crowds for closer scrutiny.  Ultimately, the viewer's examination of the pedestrians' faces, body language, idiosyncratic behaviors, and their palpable reactions - within the frame and beyond its borders - are documented for the viewer's full consideration.
