"Montreal: Frames of Reference" (2024) - Walking the streets of a major city means maneuvering through masses of people, and in doing so one can easily become anesthetized to the faces and actions of others. I find this regrettable and I often make a point to establish eye contact with people as they walk by. This photographic project, "Frames of Reference," speaks to the art of urban street politics and cultural reactions to the chance encounter with the camera. By using a simple framing device, I have created an artificial means of selecting individuals from the sidewalk crowds for interaction and observation. Ultimately, the viewer's examination of the pedestrians' faces, body language, idiosyncratic behaviors, and their palpable reactions - within the frame and beyond its borders - are documented for full consideration. By using the magnification tool the viewer can more completely examine the images. (Reduced Resolution Digital Images)
