"Los Angeles/Venice Beach: Frames of Reference" (2025) - Walking the boardwalk of a beach resort means maneuvering through masses of people intent on having a good time and enjoying the sun. Unlike walking the streets of an urban environment, the tourists and locals alike have let their guard down and are seeking pleasure and good times.. This photographic project seeks to capture the spirit of the beach and the light-hearted nature of those who frequent the shops and the sand. By using a simple framing device, I have created an artificial means of selecting individuals from the sidewalk crowds for interaction and observation. Ultimately, the viewer's examination of the pedestrians' faces, body language, idiosyncratic behaviors, and their palpable reactions - within the frame and beyond its borders - are documented for full consideration.
